Busy, Busy, Busy!

October 20th, 2006 by chris.pund

I havent had as much time as I wish I could have to work on my projects including just writing articles for Dorm Room Biz over the past couple weeks.
I have seen great success come from the article that my eBay business, Radford Auctions, was featured in where I am receiving about 2-3 emails per week from people looking to learn more about our services and wanting us to sell something for them. As I just quickly mentioned on Dorm Room Biz, I just filed our company registration papers and have also completed the online form for a Tax ID number. Once our registration returns, we will be able to go ahead with opening our business bank account and transfering our current funds from our personal accounts to this one central account. This will also allow us to keep better track of all our financials and our profits :-).

On top of making strides with Radford Auctions, this past week has been great. Thursday was a great day here on the campus of Radford University with the inaguration of our first female President and also many networking events featuring successful alumni who contribute greatly to the university and are looking for ways to grow Radford and support entrepreneurship among the students. Most of these alumni are apart of a good called the President’s Advisory Council which serves the schools President in helping to contribute ideas, information, and concerns with the future of Radford and the direction that it is heading. As I mentioned, they are also very interested in supporting entrepreneurship among the students, which is great news for me! For the past month or so, I have been working on putting together ideas for a young entrepreneurs conference to be held here in the spring. Now, after making many contacts in the President’s Advisory Council, this conference is going from being just an idea to something that will actually happen, with a lot of planning to go between now and then.

Next week will also be a busy one! I will be spending a lot of time working on planning the conference as mentioned above. I have meetings with the Student Government Association and also the Dean of the College of Business and Economics looking to gain both of their support. Following those two meetings, I have a conference call with members of the RU Foundation (which handles most of the alumni donations and also applying for different foundation funding/donations for the university) and a successful alumni who will be helping in the planning of the conference. After these three meetings, I will be setting up a meeting with the Dean of the College of Information Science and Technology and then with the Provost of the Unviersity to get major universtiy support for the conference. With the support of the different departments and offices on campus, we (my advisor and I) will then be meeting with the President of the University to get her support (and hopefully some money/funding) for the conference. So, be sure to keep your eyes on here and Dorm Room Biz for updates on how the progress of this goes over the next few weeks as they will be huge ones.

On top of all of this, I am still attending classes and have a test next week (Tuesday) which I need to study for. And then finally I need to find time to finish up 2 website design projects that I am working on so that I can collect the money for those and beef up my bank account!

Anyway, with that I believe it is time to head to bed.

Until next time,
Chris

The Business of Business Cards

October 3rd, 2006 by chris.pund

ZeroMillion.com:

“I enjoyed our conversation. Have you got a card? Here’s mine. I’ll email you.”

Let me tell you why this phrase can change your life, and why a business card file (or book) can be essential to your new business.

That is the most difficult phrase to remember to say repeatedly when you’re a new entrepreneur. Especially if you’re fairly young and new to the business of, well, business.

Making contacts with people is essential. In fact, it’s how many of your professional partnerships, friendships, and ideas get off the ground. You don’t have to be a social butterfly to get your name out there, but you should get a business card and remember the above phrase.

Read the full article at ZeroMillion.com to learn about the business of business cards!
